The Nifty was trading at 5500, up 28 points and the Sensex was at 18323, up 118 points. The CNX Midcap rose 60 points to 8843; about 711 shares advanced while 101 shares declined on NSE.

H D F C Bank contributed rise of 17.28 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (9.25 points), Larsen & Toubro (9.14 points), Sterlite Industries (India) (8.23 points) and Housing Development Finance Corporation (6.3 points).
However, Infosys Technologies contributed fall of 8.63 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (5.8 points), Hero Honda Motors (4.04 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.6 points) and Bharti Airtel (1.13 points).
