Finally, the Sensex and the Nifty closed flat at 18,264 and 5,476 respectively. The market breadth was positive; about 1752 shares advanced, 1093 shares declined, and 798 shares remained unchanged.

Banking Sector
The top losers in the banking space were SBI (down 3.7%), Indian Overseas Bank (down 3.5%), Union Bank of India (down 2.5%), HDFC Bank (down 0.5%) and Axis Bank (down 0%).The top gainers in the banking space were Yes Bank (up 5.8%), Bank Of India (up 5.6%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 5.1%), Karnataka Bank (up 4.7%) and Allahabad Bank (up 4.4%).

Key Factor of Market
Strong Q4 earnings posted by the likes of Tata Steel and Coal India boosted investor sentiment. On the whole, the Indian market was volatile through the F&O week.

Most banking shares rose on bargain hunting after recent steep slide.

Daily Market Report


The BSE Sensex plummeted 392.26 points or 1.91% to settle at 20,105.38 (Provisional) while the S&P CNX Nifty plunged 121.85 points or 1.97% to end at 6,055.50.

The BSE Sensex touched a high and a low of 20,578.45 and 20,090.18 respectively. There were 1 advance against 29 declines on the index.

Iindices surged in opening trade tracking firm Asian stocks but soon slipped into red due to profit booking. However, the indices held positive zone in mid-morning trade. The market moved between positive and negative terrain near the flat line in afternoon trade, but fresh selling dragged the market to the day's low in late afternoon trade resulting in the Sensex and Nifty closing down by 0.9% each. BSE midcap and small-cap indices performed slightly better than the key benchmark indices, closing below by 0.3% and 0.5%, respectively.

Coal India List On 4 November

The price band for the Coal India Ltd. IPO has been fixed at Rs225-245 a share, Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said in New Delhi.
Coal India will list on November 4, 2010.The Government could raise as much as US$3.5bn at this price. The IPO opens on Oct. 18 and closes on Oct. 21.

Indian Stock Market, Nifty Daily Closing Report – 11'Oct

Market Report

The Sensex closed at 20,339 up 89 points and the Nifty was at 6,135 up 32 points after making an intra-day high of 6,192. The Mid cap and Small cap indices were up by 0.77% and 1.32% respectively. The breadth of the market was positive and the total turnover recorded at Rs 94,016Cr. The Oct future ended with 20 points premium.

Increase in buying activity towards the end of the session helped the BSE’s 30-share sensitive index Sensex to shut shop above the psychological 20,300-level while the NSE’s 50-share broadly followed index Nifty Future settled marginally below the crucial 6,150-mark. Auto, metal and oil & gas counters witnessed maximum gains during the session while marketmen opted to unwind their positions in technology and software stocks. Small-cap space hogged the limelight throughout the session and also outperformed its larger peers with good margin. Indications from world equities were supportive in trade today with most of the regional peers finishing in the green.

The rupee climbed near a two-year peak against the dollar on Monday but retreated from session highs by the close of the day after local shares failed to build on morning gains. But, the dollar remained under pressure against its major rivals in the overseas markets.

The partially-convertible Indian currency ended at 44.40/41 per dollar after opening at the day's peak of 44.1750. It touched a day's low of 44.44/45 and had closed at 44.4350 last Friday.
